Nach dem Dickicht ist dies der zweite neue Western aus der Feder von Lansdale.
War Dickicht ein Western a la Tarrantino ist dieser hier mehr der Historie verpflichtet.
Er erzählt die Geschichte des ehemaligen Sklaven Willie Jackson der über die Jahrzehnte zu Nat Love aka Deadwood Dick wird, ein legendärer Scharfschütze, Indianfighter, Sheriff und Plainsman. Nebenbei trifft man auf alte Bekannte wie Al Swearangen, Bill Hickock und Calamity Jane, nur so hat man sie bisher nicht geschildert.Lustig wenn Wild Bill vollgesoffen der guten Calamity beim Tanzball das braune Zimmer einräumt am Gatter.
Dieser Western ist naturalistisch, hart unerbittlich und atemberaubend. Die Figur des Nat Love der als Teenager aus Zufall den nackten Hintern der Frau des Ranchers Ruggart zu sehen bekommt und deswegen zum Tode verurteilt werden soll wird brilliant und episch erzählt. Auf der Flucht wird er zum black Revolvermann immer verfolgt von seiner Nemesis Ruggart.
Das Buch ist rotzig frech erzählt garniert mit dem unnachahmlichen Humor von Lansdale dessen Sätze wie in einer Screwballkomödie fliegen.
Ich kann das Buch gar nicht genug loben.
Spannend, tragisch und melancholisch ein wunderbarer Roman über den Westen wie er wohl wirklich war, dreckig und verroht und doch gabs Freundschaften wie die hier geschilderten, man ritt zusammen, hatte seine Shootouts und vielen bissen auf übelste Art ins Gras.
Leute was soll ich sagen....Lansdales Western sind der Hammer !! Mit Dickicht mein Lansdale Fave, da kommt auch the Bottoms nicht mit.
Eine deutsche VÖ kommt wohl dieses Jahr noch.
