Nach all den Absetzungen im Zuge der Upfronts 2017 hat sich ABC natürlich auch ein paar neue Serien in sein zukünftiges Programm geholt. Eine davon ist das Flüchtlingsdrama The Crossing, das von Dan Dworkin und Jay Beattie (Criminal Minds) entwickelt wurde.
Die Hauptrollen übernehmen Steve Zahn (Treme, Mad Dogs), Natalie Martinez (APB), Sandrine Holt (Mr. Robot, House of Cards), Jay Karnes (The Shield) und Rick Gomez (Band Of Brothers). Die Pilotepisode wurde indes von Rob Bowman (Castle, The X-Files) inszeniert.
Set in present day Washington state, The Crossing chronicles a small town, led by the local sheriff (Steve Zahn), that is suddenly playing host to nearly 50 refugees (with hundreds more washing up dead on the shores) from an unnamed war-torn country. The real kicker: it’s a war from 150 years in the future, so there’s obviously a mystery/sci-fi element at play here. Part time-travel show, part character drama, it comes from the minds of Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin, who have worked on such previous dramas as Surface, The Event and Revenge, and boasts an excellent cast.
This one is a big gamble for ABC — and might be a huge swing and a miss — but the trailer makes us think The Crossing could be a winner, with potential to be the big new breakout mystery show of the 2017-18 season. And like any good sci-fi show, it can touch on real events happening worldwide right now, examined through a science fiction lens.

Weckt nicht viel Interesse. Der Trailer überzeugt mich jetzt auch nicht so 100 Prozent und ich halte solche Storys auch für serienfeindlich, da gerade sowas sehr oft ohne echten Abschluss endet, einfach, gerade wenn oben plötzlich entschieden wird, dass es nicht weitergeht. Nee, da warte ich lieber was die Zukunft so bringt.
