Bauen die vier Bände aufeinander auf bzw. hängen zusammen? Wären ja dann auch wieder so läppische +/- 3000 Seiten.

@Gunther: Sollte man das auf englisch lesen oder auf deutsch? (Qualität Übersetzung, Sprachstil, evtl. Kürzungen etc.)
Gibt es da Sammelbände oder sowas (auf Englisch oder Deutsch)?

What to say, what to say... the Elric saga is one of the most excellent fantasy series ever written. This is the first part, composed of the first three books, excluding Fortress of the Pearl, which was written after the six-book saga was completed. Nevertheless, it fits smoothly.

Elric of Melnibone - The flawless beginning of the saga. Elric of Melnibone introduces its namesake, his best friend Dyvim Tvar, his lover Cymoril, and his competent cousin Yyrkoon. This is, obviously, the first true advancement into the story; but as I mentioned before, it is flawless.

The Fortress of the Pearl - A sidestory, taking place between Elric of Melnibone and the Sailor on the Seas of Fate. Not as good as the other installments in the series, but a gem nonetheless.

The Sailor on the Seas of Fate - Split into three seperate, overall unrelated stories. Of course, all three fit into the current storyline, but each can be considered a seperate adventure. The first introduces Hawkmoon, Erekose, and Corum, three of the other incarnations of the Eternal Champion. The next two tell of Elric's adventures with Smiorgan and Duke Avan.

The Dreaming City - The conclusion to the plot that was set up through the entire first book (Elric of Melnibone). To say any more would spoil and excellent plot twist. Also, to mention, this is the first part of Weird of the White Wolf, the third book in the Elric Saga.

While the Gods Laugh - The second part of Weird. Here Elric meets Shaarilla, the wingless woman of Myrrh. Also, in this story, Elric meets Moonglum, his most faithful companion, and the one who stayed with the albino warrior the longest. An excellent story, simply put.

The Singing Citadel - Elric's first meeting with his long-lasting enemy (from this point on), the sorcerer and servant to Chaos, Theleb K'aarna. Here Elric also meets Yishana, who appears once more in the future Elric stories. The third installment in Weird. (amazon.com)

Ist das Englische in einzelne Geschichten aufgeteilt und das deutsche ein Sammelband?

Eher auf englisch oder deutsch (deutsch komplett uncut?)?

Kaufe dir die deutsche Gesamtausgabe von Heyne, wie oben im Link. Gibt nix Besseres.
Dort sind die sechs Elric Bücher chronologisch geordnet uncut gedruckt. Andere Elric Bücher wie Fortress of the Pearl wurden nachträglich von Moorcook geschrieben und sind nicht relevant. Sie sind Einschübe aus Elrics Leben. In der US Ausgabe hat man sie wohl chronologisch eingefügt, was mit Sicherheit den Lesefluss trübt. Der deutsche Sammelband ist ohne Makel.
Ursprünglich gab es sechs Bücher und auch Kurzgeschichten. Die Amerikaner haben da einen Split gemacht wie bei heutigen DVD Serien Boxen.

Der deutsche Band beinhaltet die ersten sechs Bücher. Damit war die Elric Saga abgeschlossen. Diese sind im deutschen Sammelband drin. Die letzten zwei sind Nachzügler und sind auch nicht so genial. Die würde ich mir nur anschaffen wenn du nach dem Lesen mehr willst.

Die anderen von dir erwähnten Bücher sind einfach nur vom selben Autor, ebenfalls Heldensagen, die mit dieser Idee zu tun haben, spielen aber im Bezug auf Elric keine Rolle mehr, gelle?

Elric werd ich demnächst denk ich wirklich mal klicken. Sword & Fantasy ist seit Conan und He-Man genau mein Ding, in Buchform kenn ich sowas noch gar nicht.

Das klingt wirklich sehr cool. Dann werd ich sicher früher oder später alle Bände lesen. Erstmal Elric, um nen Eindruck zu bekommen..aber das gefällt mir sicher.

Hammermäßiger Eindruck nach den ersten 80 Seiten heute!! Danke für den Tipp. Da gehts wirklich rund, saubrutal und absolut wunderbar geschrieben.
Ich glaub ich leg nachher noch ne Manowar CD ein.

Oder lege den Conan Soundtrack ein, passt auch gut

Der miese Verräter und Cousin von Elric ist gerade geflohen, nachem Elric ihn sich zur Brust genommen hat. Mal gespannt, was da noch so alles kommt (bin ja erst am Anfang)..

Hier ist von letzterem Song übrigens eine lustige LIVE-Aufnahme, die irgendwie was hat.

Also über Joey & Co. kann man ja sagen, was man will, aber stimmlich klingt das doch (auch live) echt nicht so übel.

Genau DIESE Songs gehen mir beim Lesen von ELRIC durch den Kopf, das Buch ist einfach nur geil!!

Gert ich erwarte eines deiner Hammer Reviews. Interessiert mich brennend wie du diesen Klassiker interpretierst.

Oje, da erlegst du mir eine Bürde auf. Mal sehen, ein Review zu einem 1004-Seiten-Fantasy-Epos, und ich kann mich doch nicht so recht kurz fassen..   . Mal gucken, VIELLEICHT, aber ein ausführlicher Kommentar kommt auf jeden Fall!

Also die ersten beiden Bände (über 300 Seiten) sind durch. Bisher absolut positives Fazit. Es geht um Ehre, um Erkenntnisse, um Monster, Geister, Götter, Drachen, Liebe, Verrat, geheimnisvolle Schwerter und grauenvolle Bestien - und ein vernünftiger Härtegrad ist allemal gegeben, meine Herren, da purzeln die Gliedmaße vom Himmel.
Was den Inhalt angeht, ist es schon fast ein Overkill. Elric erlebt ein Abenteuer nach dem anderen, das kann man sich gar nicht alles merken. Die Inkarnationen hat er auch schon getroffen. Ein, zwei Sachen fand ich etwas over the top, aber alles in allem find ichs sehr geil bisher.
