Thema: The Last Stand (Schwarzenegger im US-Debüt von Kim Jee-Won)

Now, Kim Ji-Woon is prepping his first English-language film in the form of The Last Stand, an action-thriller about a U.S. Sheriff Trying his darnedest to stop the leader of a drug cartel from reaching the Mexican Border. Recently, Kim Ji-Woon spoke to Coming Soon about how things are progressing with Last Stand.

The director was coy about who he would like to see star in The Last Stand now that Neeson is out, but he said:

    “There is a short list that we are interested in having for the film, so are we actively casting but nothing has been signed.”

When asked about what his approach to The Last Stand would be, he said:

    “My concept for The Last Stand is that it’s kind of a combination of Die Hard and High Noon where [the latter] was about protecting something very important that needs to be protected, while Die Hard is a very drawn-out, long process that almost kills someone in the process, so my film will be [about] something that has to be very well protected and in the process, we almost die protecting it in a way. […] So if I Saw the Devil was about a person’s extreme remorse about having lost something that they couldn’t protect, The Last Stand would be where someone puts their lives on the line to protect something that’s very important and it will be a bit more optimistic film in that regard.”

Lastly, Kim Ji-Woon indicated that filming would likely start later this year, saying:

    “If there are no problems and no complications, I’ll probably start shooting it in August or September.”

Considering there are almost always problems or complications, I guess we can expect The Last Stand to not begin filming by August or September.

It’s unfortunate that Liam Neeson dropped out of The Last Stand, because frankly, he’s easily the coolest “older white guy” in show business currently. He can take a completely mediocre Bourne-esque action flick – say, Taken – and turn it into one of the more watchable films of the past ten years.

That said, Kim Ji-Woon is the true star of his movies, and there are plenty of “old white guys” looking to star in awesome and stylish modern-day westerns, especially of the Die Hard variety. Hell, maybe Bruce Willis could even take the role. If titles are anything to go by, he’s practically already starred in the movie.

Mit "The Good, the Bad and the Weird" hat Jee-Won bereits sein Talent für Western bewiesen und die Idee einer Mischung aus "High Noon" und "Die Hard" klingt doch wirklich nicht schlecht!

Als Hauptdarsteller wird aktuell übrigens Arnie gehandelt.

Ich bin gespannt und freue mich schonmal auf Jee-Won's neues Projekt!

Story


Schwarzenegger spielt Sheriff Owens, einen Mann, der in dem verschlafenen Grenzstädtchen Sommerton Junction die wenigen Verbrechen ahndet. Er ließ seinen Posten bei der LAPD hinter sich, nachdem dort eine Operation schiefging, bei der sein Partner verkrüppelt wurde. Doch mit der Ruhe ist es bald vorbei: Gefangene brechen aus einem FBI-Transport aus, unter ihnen der berüchtigtste und meistgesuchteste Drogenkönig, der mit 200mph in einem speziell getunten Auto, mehreren Gangmitgliedern und Geiseln Richtung Grenze rast - genau auf Summerton Junction zu. Dort versammelt sich die geballte Kraft des US-Gesetzes, denn hier ist ihre letzte Chance, den Gangster zu schnappen, bevor dieser hinter der Grenze unerreichbar wird. Obwohl unwillig, wird Owens in die Sache mit hineingezogen, eine der heftigsten Konfrontationen der Kinogeschichte.


Kim Jee Woon wird's schon richten, denke ich mal. Schlecht klingt das erstmal nicht.
Drehstart ist September.

Greg hat Recht: Dann brauch sich die Filmbranche nicht wundern, wenn man den Film nicht im Kino sieht, aber Alternativen in Betracht zieht.
Hatte mich echt sehr gefreut, den auf der grossen Leinwand zu sehen.

Ich werde auch nicht ins Kino gehen, sollte er hier cut laufen. Allerdings ist das für mich persönlich noch lange keine Grund, den illegal zu schauen...

Genau, dann wartet man halt 6 Monate und kauft sich die DVD oder BD für das gleiche Geld, wie der Kinobesuch gekostet hätte und gut ist.

Hat irgendwer was anderes gesagt? Das Eine schliesst das Andere nicht aus.

In der Schweiz dürfte der Film vermutlich (hoffentlich) ungeschnitten laufen.

Das Interview im TV mit Arnie gestern war wieder zu geil er wills auf englisch halten, weil er deutsch langsam verlernt hat, meinte er... auf die Frage des Reporters, ob er Angst vorm Alt werden hat, meinte er dann "I'm doesn't äffräid of ännising" - Mönsch dann soller halt endlich mal englisch lernen!

Und der hat echt deutsch verlernt? Mann Oh Mann, Arnie.
