Female-helmed horror anthology XX gets a stylish and scary official trailer
Long in gestation, the all-women-directed horror anthology XX has altered its creative lineup a few times since its announced production in 2013. But the film eventually locked its talented four directors and not only is the movie complete, it’s prepped for its highly-anticipated World Premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival (which kicks into high gear on January 19th- 29th) and then a theatrical and VOD release on February 17th via Magnet Releasing.
Today, we got our first peek at the official trailer for XX and… man, it looks good. Like, really good.
Synopsis: XX is a new all-female helmed horror anthology featuring four dark tales written and directed by fiercely talented women: Annie Clark (aka singer/songwriter/performer St. Vincent) rocks her directorial debut with The Birthday Party; Karyn Kusama (The Invitation, Jennifer’s Body) exorcises Her Only Living Son; Roxanne Benjamin (Southbound) screams Don’t Fall; and Jovanka Vuckovic (The Captured Bird) dares to open The Box. Award-winning animator Sofia Carrillo (La Casa Triste) wraps together four suspenseful stories of terror featuring a cast including Natalie Brown, Melanie Lynskey, Breeda Wool and Christina Kirk.
The film is the brainchild of Vuckovic and Todd Brown of XYZ Films. We spoke to Vuckovic about the film today and why she felt it needed to exist:
“We created XX because there were no all-women horror anthologies. I had been thinking about crowdfunding it when out of the blue Todd (Brown) called me and asked me if I wanted to produce an all-women horror anthology with him. We had both noticed women being passed over for jobs in the recent spate of horror anthologies so we decided to do something about it. His title was better than mine and he brought financing so we quickly agreed on the format and started making a list of directors we wanted to approach. So, XX is a direct response to the lack of opportunities for women in film – in the horror genre in particular.”

Habs gesehen, hat das Problem wie viele Kurzgeschichten, dass mir die Tiefe fehlt. XX ist ganz nett aber nicht mehr, konnte mich aber doch ganz gut unterhalten, wobei ich lieber zwei längere Stories gehabt hätte als die Hand voll Kurze. :6:
