It's been two years since the release of The Convent - which faced an uphill battle finding distribution, but eventually won Lions Gate over - now director Mike Mendez is moving on with his third directorial effort, The Gravedancers, for Neverland Entertainment and Madonna's Maverick Films.

Mendez looks to be laying the demon nuns to rest, this time delving into more ethereal territory. The Gravedancers focuses on three friends that unknowingly desecrate the graves of three very unforgiving ghosts. "It's a cross between Tobe Hooper's Poltergeist and Alejandro Amenabar's 2001 sleeper hit The Others," describes Mendez who spent his downtime after The Convent collaborating with writer/director Dave Parker (Director's Cut) on the Showtime Halloween horror special The Masters of Horror.

"I'm going for scares with The Gravedancers," this young director promises. "This isn't tongue-in-cheek or campy, this is the real deal. I want to give people a reason to be afraid of ghosts again."

He'll be working from a script penned by Brad Keene and Chris Skinner, a writing pair currently at work on an '80s horror remake for Original Films, however, the title of the remake is being kept under wraps at the moment. (Hmm, mysterious…)

The Gravedancers will begin production in the first quarter of '04 and hopefully it won't have any trouble spooking its way into theaters…a lot of bloodthirsty Convent fans are eager to see what macabre delights Mendez is going to pull out of his hat next.

Bin mir aber nicht sicher ob mich das wirklich so freuen soll, Killers war echt mies, und The Convent war auch nur geringfügig besser....

Hallo Fans!

Mike Medes´s neuer "The Gravedancers" erscheint nun endlich auch in unseren Gefilden:

am 15.Oktober 2007 ist das teil auch bei uns zu haben!
Der Film wird über Falcon Media (Universum) vertrieben und enthält den üblichen Bonus SchnickSchnack wie Making of und Trailer. Der Film wurde mit FSK 16 eingestuft.
Das derzeitige Cover der DVD sieht aber noch recht mager und geschmacklos aus.
Wir werden sehen.
