Hier mal ein Kommentar der sehr, sehr wahre Worte spricht !
Truth be told, I've been in a negative headspace for a long time now regarding fan culture and online discourse.
In the old days, I came to online spheres to unwind, and connect with people who shared interests - as finding those people in real life was tough a decade ago. But I think if there is one thing the presence of Dial of Destiny taught me, is that it's time to walk away.
Since 2016, the online sphere of film discussion/discourse and all things nerd-related have gone to levels of toxic that have crossed over into the political realm; every film, show, game, and so on is accused of having 'agenda', and being a secret plot to destroy childhood heroes and inject politics. I've seen threats, blatant racism, misogyny, homophobia (I'm queer, myself), and fascistic thinking become the norm.
Dial of Destiny is new latest sacrificial lamb. And I'm done.
I've absolutely had it with anytime I go to unwind on YouTube, there's a new thumbnail of panicked Harrison Ford with a zombie Phoebe Waller-Bridge. It feels as if YouTubers hate this film out of obligation, because that's what their audience expects, so they pretend it's the worst thing ever. They need a new 'failure' as fodder against Lucasfilm, Disney, and Kathleen Kennedy. And their hatred is so hyperbolic - I saw one video call this film a "crime against cinema". Like. C'mon.
Positive reviews on the platform, of which there are many - are downvoted, and the comments are vile and gross.
Reddit isn't much better, though the Indiana Jones page is pretty good.
But either way, understanding how much this negativity surrounding this new film has taken a lot of the enjoyment and fun out of the film and hype cycle...really was a wakeup call.
Because everyone I've spoken to or know personally - family, friends or work people, they all saw and loved the film. Hell, even on Facebook or other platforms, I see so many saying how much they liked or loved the film. I see articles about the box office not being that great, and everyone's defending the film. The audience scores are high on RT, IMDB, Post-Trak, Cinemascore ain't bad, etc.
Plus, most all of us here loved it, too.
Heck, both showings I saw had the audience applaud at the end.
I should be happy and in a good mood about the film!
Reception-wise, it's doing great.
But I'm not happy.
Genuinely, I don't think nerd-culture can recover. It's not just Indy - everything is crapped on, these days. Nobody likes anything or wants to like anything. Everything is guilty until proven innocent.
It's all just so toxic. Everyone hates everything, everything is "objectively bad", you're a "shill", "sheep", and a moron if you like XYZ. It must be awful being a Star Wars fan, too. It's far worse, I'm sure.
Ultimately, I know that all the negativity surrounding Indy 5 isn't about the film itself. It's just not. Geek-culture wanted blood, they wanted it to be horrible - so they're saying it is just because...that's what's needed to slam Disney, Kathleen Kennedy, LucasFilm and "Wokeness". We're in a time where nothing new is good enough, and nobody really wants it to be.
It's not getting better and it's not making me happier.
It's time to walk away.
