    Moinsen,

Mel Gibson to make film on warrior queen
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Following his film The Passion of the Christ, Mel Gibson is to produce another historical epic on Boudicca, the Iceni queen who led a rebellion against the Romans in AD 61. The move follows Gibson’s successful portrayal of Christ, which took around $60million to make but has already taken $500m at the box office.

The new film Warrior will trace Boudicca’s life leading up to her marriage to King Prasutagus of the Iceni, who died in AD 60. The Queen was then ill-treated by the Romans and her subsequent revolt attracted widespread support from other tribes in Britain and they sacked Colchester, London and Verulamium (St Albans). The rebellion also defeated part of the 9th Legion before the Roman governor, Suetonius Paulinus, crushed the uprising somewhere in the Midlands. Boudicca died soon after and could have taken poison.

Warrior will be directed by Gavin O'Connor, who told the magazine Variety: “It is a masculine story with a female point of view." There are currently three other Boudicca film projects – Paramount’s Warrior Queen, written by David Auburn, Queen Fury by Steven Spielberg's Dreamworks and My Country. Other historical films involving Gibson include Braveheart, on William Wallace, and We Were Soldiers, based on a true Vietnam War story. (April 29th)
